Fox Lake Correctional Institution in Fox Lake, WI; (Dodge County 14), is looking for a Production Welding Program instructor.

Position Summary:

This position will develop and implement a program of professional educational services to inmates in Production Welding. This position will design, organize and modify the instructional environment, administer standardized testing, participate in educational evaluations and multidisciplinary teams.

Applicants must be legally entitled to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application.

The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting.

Candidate must possess or be eligible for certification by the Wisconsin Technical College System as a Teacher of Production Welding (#442). Eligibility for WTCS certification must include:

Educational Requirements: Associate's degree or be willing to obtain one.

Occupational Requirements: An occupational instructor shall have 24 months (4,000 hours) of verifiable occupational experience as a fully qualified worker in each occupational area where certification is requested.


  • Knowledge of current welding practices, procedures and techniques.

  • Knowledge of all properties of various metals.

  • Ability to work effectively with institution staff, Department of Corrections’ personnel, inmates and the public.

  • Skill in interpersonal relationships to enhance interdisciplinary team participation.

  • Knowledge of equipment and tools used in the trade.

Salary: Starting salary is $42,702 per year. Additional compensation is available for credits that are above what is needed for certification. This position is included in pay schedule and range 13-04. A twelve month probationary period will be required.
